Safeguarding

Safeguarding Children is Everybody’s Responsibility

As you know the safety and well-being of the children here at Rangeworthy Primary School is our first priority. This is called safeguarding.

Safeguarding children and young people means protecting them from abuse or neglect and getting the right support in place as early as possible. We want our children and young people to feel safe, healthy and thrive. Keeping children safe at Rangeworthy is everybody’s responsibility and you might be surprised to hear that this also includes you – our school family and community!

If your child is not in school please contact us and leave a message to tell us the reason for your child’s absence. If we do not receive this communication, we will contact you, to make sure the child is with you. If we cannot contact the first identified person on our contact list, we will contact the second person. It is important that we confirm that your child is safe.

Are you concerned that a child is being abused or neglected?

Are YOU concerned about a child or the conduct of a member of staff? If so, please share your concerns without delay.  You are welcome to come into school and share your concerns with our Designated Safeguarding Leader, Samantha Travis, or our Deputy Safeguarding Leader Sue Cain.

If you think a child or young person is in immediate danger then please dial 999 and ask for police assistance.

Owing to their day-to-day contact with individual children during term-time, school staff have an important role to play in recognising and taking the appropriate action in cases of suspected child abuse. All staff are familiar with local child protection arrangements, have regular training and understand their responsibilities in order to safeguard and protect children in their care.

All school staff, both teaching and non-teaching, will immediately report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Leader or Deputy Safeguarding Leaders. In cases of suspected abuse, the school is required by South Gloucestershire Council to consult the Social Services Department.

If a member of staff has concerns which relate to the actions or behaviour of another member of staff this must be reported to the Headteacher, or the chair of governors if the concern relates to the Headteacher.  Any allegations will then be passed onto to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) who will work with the school to investigate the allegation. The LADO can be contacted on – 01454 868508.

At Rangeworthy Primary School all staff know this process and are committed to it.  It is openly discussed at staff meetings and training sessions.

You can also report your concerns online:

NSPCC Website: www.nspcc.org.uk

Or you can also speak to:

We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our child protection policy which can be viewed in the policies section of our website.

Useful Information for Parents – Keeping Children Safe

Internet and E-Safety

E-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Rangeworthy Primary School. We have extensive security measures in place in school to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Internet and E-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the e-Safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.

It’s essential to be realistic – banning the internet or technology will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem. Education around safe use is essential.

Useful Information about staying safe online can be found at:

Rangeworthy also subscribes to ‘National Online Safety’. All parents have been issued with a link to allow them to access the excellent resources here for free. If you need another reminder of the link, please let Mrs Warnock know.

Safety

Please do not allow your child to play in the school equipment before or after school hours.

Dogs and any other animals are not allowed on school grounds for health and safety reasons. Please take particular care of younger brothers and sisters when you bring them to school.

Children can bring their bikes and scooters to school if they wish and leave them in our bike shelters, but they are not allowed to ride them within the school grounds.
