Severn Federation At Rangeworthy Primary School, the aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the necessary skills to be successful, independent and motivated, life-long learners.
Through engaging and varied experiences, the children at Rangeworthy will explore a rich, challenging and inclusive curriculum; inspiring them to ‘let their light shine’.
As a Church of England school, our curriculum is underpinned by our core Christian values: respect, responsibility and friendship.

At Rangeworthy, we believe that every child has the right to know what it feels like to be successful. We want our children to understand how special and unique they are and to recognise the power they have to change the world. We want them to be the best possible versions of themselves and, with knowledge of God’s love, to let their light shine.
We want our curriculum to inspire, motivate and challenge the children we teach. With this in mind, we have constructed a broad, balanced and rich curriculum, underpinned by our core Christian values, that aims to develop courageous learners, compassionate individuals and responsible citizens. Our curriculum seeks to engage learners by providing relevant and meaningful learning opportunities and exciting local, national and international experiences. We want our children to leave Rangeworthy with a love of learning and the knowledge and skills they need to be resilient, life-long learners.
We have identified key concepts within each subject and deliberately structured the curriculum so that these are introduced and revisited appropriately, supporting children to make connections and links in their learning both within and between different subjects. By carefully sequencing the knowledge and skills from the National Curriculum within a three year and four year teaching cycle, our curriculum ensures that learners have a clear understanding of what getting better in a subject looks like.
Using our knowledge of key pedagogical principles, we have carefully selected evidence-informed approaches that meet the needs of our learners in each subject:
In writing and maths, we have adopted a mastery approach that teaches and embeds explicit skills through guided practice, application in different contexts and regular opportunities to revisit and refine.
Reading for both pleasure and purpose is given high priority across the curriculum, with a particular focus on teaching vocabulary.
In science, geography and history, we use an enquiry-led approach with a carefully crafted question as a driver. Each enquiry, or “mission”, begins with a launch activity to capture the children’s interest, stimulate their curiosity and elicit prior knowledge. Through a series of sub-questions and carefully sequenced tasks and activities, learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to answer the mission question. Each mission ends with a “splashdown” where learners are challenged to independently demonstrate their understanding of the mission question in a high-quality outcome with a real-life audience. The splashdown is shared with the children at the start of the mission so that learning is always purposeful and with clear direction. Our splashdowns have been carefully chosen to ensure breadth across the school (in terms of outcome and audience) and so that they are relevant to the children at Rangeworthy.
All other foundation subjects are taught discretely, enhancing our enquiry-led learning where meaningful.
